The design reflects the turbulent history of the Navy of the Republic of Korea and the spirit of men and women serving in this branch. From the outside shape is clearly rolling the dough is folded and coiled. The unpredictability of the ocean and its eternal strength are related to the formal result of the design.

The volume creates an internal movement that intersects with multiple spaces. A procession takes place simultaneously in the large main room, guiding guests through a storytelling and a vision of the Navy of the Republic of Korea.

Passing through the exhibition halls, visitors can reach the observation deck to watch the ROK Patrol Chamsuri 357, the heart for the design concept.

“On June 29, 2002, a North Korean patrol boat crossed the waters of South Korea and a surprise attack on a patrol boat called Chamsuri 357. The incident took place at the end of the 2002 World Cup, killing six sailors aboard the boat, wounding 18 and destroying the ship.

Due to the time of the incident, the majority of South Koreans were involved in the World Cup fever and this was not a great naval battle in the media coverage. ”

The intention is to recall and perpetuate this event. The design immortalizes the brave sailors, taking the image of the waves, the only witness of the battle. The patrol boat is oriented facing north, located behind the memorial, followed by the sea. The memorial is an eternal wave, moving the patrol boat to the north, allowing the 357 Chamsuri continue the fight. Landscape design works by simulating the environment in which the ship is engaged in battle.

Finally, the museum will be a center which will provide spiritual education of naval personnel, and deliver information naval historical events to the public.
