Building Design on the old, MAB Architekten
Kreuzberg is the most popular district of Berlin. Located between East and Oste (a line of stones disappeared remember the layout of the wall), three quarters limited to East Berlin. It mixes dozens of different nationalities who have learned to live with their differences and their commonalities, as well as housing many students and young people. All this mixing results in a lively and entertaining area. Characterized for many years to be a cosmopolitan and highly political and trade union action in the 70 and 80 became the center of the alternative and the actions of the squatters became legendary.
Kreuzberg is one of the liveliest districts of Berlin, which houses a mix of punks, bohemians, anarchists, and a large Turkish community. The neighborhood has been developed (gentrified) in recent years with web companies, art galleries, designers, and nightlife has become popular worldwide, the departments have been renovated and has become a fashionable more and more expensive.
The architecture office MAB Architects, Is taking charge of the renovation and refurbishment of several old buildings in the industry, stationed in this district “in”, using this condition as for the growing appreciation that this can generate revenue for construction companies and in turn helping to rescue and maintain in this neighborhood is so typical of Berlin.
Here I present a case of the MAB office architects, as an example of the topic in my previous article “a future for our past”, where work is done restoration and refurbishment of an old building in a place where buildings and this are the protagonists in the history of this neighborhood.
After years of neglect, the ruin suffered by this apartment building was considerable, is intended to take this typical Berlin building multifamily housing located in the neighborhood Bergmannstrasse-North (Kreuzberg) to renew and thus re-use and in turn give gain, converting vacant apartments in attractive and renovated homes.
It was also thought to give the attics use so far no use, structuring and thus become the building’s Penthouse-Duplex.
A small historic building in the courtyard of the building (sort of hold large) also became an attractive individual department, where he used his independent status.
