Cidade Nova is a subway station and pedestrian bridge designed for the city of Rio de Janeiro, which aims to connect two subway lines. The project is currently under construction and is part of the works intended to be implemented by 2014, the year Brazil will host the World Cup.

The proposal is located on Avenida Presidente Vargas Gamboa district, which is an old suburb in decline despite its valuable historic architecture. This avenue is one of the most circulated, which results in an impenetrable physical barrier that has stopped the connection and revitalization of the neighborhood, accusing an urgent need for connection between the two sides.

The bridge is a structure covered 207 meters in length to allow a pedestrian connection and simultaneously Metrobus. The design was thought of steel as a material, which greatly facilitates the constructive process and time in an area as busy. The bridge stands on three arches: 2 of 90 and one 40 feet long.

As for the station itself, generates a free space through a pillar structure of arches, it connects with the bridge and also a second terminal station which is nearby.

This structure is open to outside thought, winning natural ventilation and lighting in addition to methods such as solar thermal panels and irrigation systems from the rains, which in part makes this season much to save energy costs.
