Elbphilharmonie auditorium by Herzog & de Meuron
The city of Hamburg has commissioned the prestigious Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron to design an ambitious project: the renovation of an old warehouse building that will become a stunning new concert hall, provides one of the best in the world . The new Elbphilharmonie, already under construction, will be opened in 2012 and has a budget of 450 million €.
As part of an urban renewal plan of HafenCity, the port area of the city, the project has inspired a wave of glass over 100 m in height that appears to float over the old store, an impressive building indeed configure the new skyline of Hamburg.
In the upper glass placed two new concert hall, the largest with capacity for 2150 people but is also expected to include in the complex a 5 star hotel with international conference area as well as apartments and a large public plaza at 37 meters that can receive 550 guests.
The largest concert hall, no doubt the pride of the project is not designed according to the traditional structure because the scenario, the orchestra and the director be located in the center of the space. It has put special care in designing the acoustics, thanks to an innovative system of roof reflector, promises to be exceptional. The former warehouse built in the 60 host a parking lot, which will occupy 2 / 3 of the old building and all ancillary services of concert halls, such as training rooms backstage musical. In Elbphilharmonie held both classical music as jazz or even pop music.
