Exhibition and Congress Centre de Avila the great by Francisco Mangado
Avila is a city strong and dense. Reading your plant, focused and narrowed the bill from your wall smooth, confirms this view. All Avila is actually this hard rock in the surrounding landscape.
At this density, any vacuum acquires an additional value that has to do with the idea of contrast or the limit. The plaza served in these cases of release mechanism of the interior, exterior and articulation with the walled city. The space outside the walls is the origin of these gaps that serve as links between the two cities. The presence of a free space at the foot of the wall is to be located where the new Conference Center, suggests generation systems as indicated.
Conceptual density, generosity (set in place) on how to occupy the site and use of topographic soil conditioning have criteria to guide project decisions. Formal and spatially, the landscape, studded with pieces of granite, has provided the necessary references.
We propose a large square or plaza, a gathering place on the edge of the walls with a general level that matches one of the highest in the plot, so that its extension generates a great emptiness that will host, without excavation, required uses.
The building occupies mainly the north side of public space in new bill. Along the walls narrows the “new market square fun.” Depending on the topography, the project is living two different geometries. The most elongated orthogonal and contains the main auditoriums and halls. The most topographic irregular and adapted to the ground, houses the exhibition area.
The building is developed so that the main auditorium is reached from the square and the top of the bleachers, which allows an immediate understanding of interior space. The exhibition area has a separate entrance from the “broken” in that it breaks the platform on the eastern boundary.
So does-as below the level of the plaza all applications are connected, from the inside of the building. From a formal point of view and constructive action is inspired by the evocative power of landscape, the granite mass that invades everything. The volumes are intended to be viewed from a distance. The building can be seen from the top of the walls as a manipulation of the great rock carved terrain.
