Media-TIC building by Enric Ruiz-Geli

22 @ technology district, located in the Poble Nou district of Barcelona, the last the future occupation of one of its buildings more eco-efficient and unique, the Media-TIC. Built by architect Enric Ruiz-Geli, the study’s Cloud 9. The Media-TIC 14.000m2 of spaces available for businesses, research and training. Sponsored by The Consortium of the Zona Franca, is situated in the district 22 @ Barcelona, at the confluence of the streets Roc Boronat and Sancho d’Avila, in the Parc Barcelona Media. It is designed as a forum citizen, a communication and meeting point of enterprises and institutions in the world of information technology and communication in Barcelona, as well as medium or audiovisual sector.
The Media-TIC building, designed by CLOUD 9 cubic shaped and is formed by a massive iron girders covered by a plastic coating inflatable bubble, which show the fluorescent structure. This suggestive coating, called EFTE (Tetrafluor Ethylene Ethylene), a hybrid material is lightweight, flexible and eco-efficient. The skin of ETFE is positioned as an inflatable that have up to three air chambers. This not only improves thermal insulation, but also allows the creation of shadow through a pneumatic system. In this building, 2,500 m2 of EFTE incur a 20% energy savings. Besides being a nonstick material, which prevents its maintenance, it loses its elasticity, transparency and hardness with the passage of time.
