Under the concept of Fluid-Amphibious PavilionThis project of the Australian Bureau Peddle Thorp Architects was designed for international competition Thematic Pavilion World Expo 2012 in Yeousu, Korea. The pavilion is resolved as a ship, a floating exhibition space can navigate to other cities and aims to create a strong expression of the theme of the exhibition “The Living Ocean and Coast”.

“The design takes possession of the theoretical sciences and biology, taking the shape of fluid dynamics of ocean organisms, leaving behind a static image of a traditional building, bringing to the fore the concept of” living architecture “. The pavilion becomes a vessel filled with a similar relationship between technology and marine life. ”

The pavilion is an architectural prototype, product of interdisciplinary sources as urban planning, architecture and ship design. It is an evolved state of architecture, a futuristic living building that fits an unknown future.

The concept allows the evolution of a living schematic design, adaptive and responsive to the ocean environment. As a living organism, rising and falling with the tides, the pavilion shows the strong correlation between ocean and coastal ecosystem.

Yeousu is a young city and emerging needs a radical new image. This ship can carry with it the image of change as a bridge to the new world, a positive message to future generations, providing a platform for people to collaborate and create. Sustainability and conservation are integrated in the design, allowing continued use of the pavilion com after the World Expo has ended.

The city is located in the East Asian region, halfway between Japan and China, ideally situated on the shores of Korea (equal distance between the east and west coasts). With a multitude of islands and the bay of Japanese waters with all the sea routes between major cities.
